Deciding whether to bid on not on the job is a strategic decision for Marvin and his company, it is often difficult to decide whether to bid on a job or not as many subjective and objective factors should be taken into consideration. Some of the factors that Marvin and his team should consider before making the bid:

Profit Potential

If Marvin and his team decide to bid on the job they should consider what would be the least amount of profit they would make on this? How greater the overall profits and earnings would be? and weight it against the future jobs.

Does the bid have any tuff competitors if so, what are the chances to win the bid? To win the bid should he bid as low as possible which indeed may cause his to lose all the profitability? Does he have suitable and enough resources to execute the project in an efficient way which to led to profits?

Impact After Wining

After winning the project can Marvin’s company efficiently handle the RFP that has been broken-down to 5 levels with the resources that they have? How exposed can the company become to its competitor and future bid? Will the existing clients request for any type of cost redemption? Do wining the bid will give an insiders edge on the client? If so, will they provide a follow up contract?

Continuity

Can Marvin’s team work on a project which is 10 years long? Do they have any experience in handling such long-term project? Do they have to make any kind of changes to their current structures to handle the project efficiently? Do have suitable and enough resources such as funds, materials and manpower? What are the chances to get a follow-up project?

Risk Assessment

Marvin’s company should research on whether following the clients model will get more profit margin if not they should find a way that satisfies both client requirements and manage to achieve profits as the project is a long-term project.

If Marvin and his team did not participate in the bidding will the company lose the market value and diminish their reputation among clients. Marvin and his team must consider whether their company is suitable for contracts of the type cost reimbursable because in this contract type the client pays for each work package, so the profit is less compared to fixed price projects.

Should They Bid On Job

Above are some of the factors and from the pros and cons identified by his team are factors Marvin should consider. I recommend that Marvin and his team should bid for the job as this will help the company grow and a have constant flow of funds for 10 years. Taking this job will add value to the company in the market and have potential loyal client who might provide additional project once the current project is done. The company will gain experience in long term project which will increase their scope of accepting new long-term projects.
